Hi Guys,
We have a client that is currently running ADNM 4.8.995 with XP clients. We are extremely new to Avast so apologies for the newbie question.
We are trying to create an unmanaged msi packager that can be used on laptops, i.e we need a msi package with the flag set to go to the internet to update if the parent server is offline.
We have no trouble creating standard deployment packages, just cant find where to set this for the msi. Have searched all through the console, help, google, nada…
Any guidance you could provide would be very much appreciated.
You can use standard deployment and set this property (internet update) on special groups for laptops. Move laptops into this group and wait small amount time, depending on your communication model, when netclient start communicate and download desired setting. I do not see any problem, if deployment is running in your network. You don’t need MSI package, I prefer installation from ADNM console, especially through dynamic groups.
the managed client is “smart” it will search for the AMS server when looking for updates. It will look at the specified address within your LAN. If it doesnt find the server, it falls back to the internet updates.
Adding to what paba and wpn said, obviously if the client is unable to reach the AMS server for updates, it won’t download configuration changes while abroad either.
Remember to understand that if you change the settings for the clients in the ADNM console, the clients that are not communicating with the AMS server won’t update their settings until they come back to the network.
They will continue to download updates from the internet though.
