Crying Over Win32:Trojan-gen{VC}

I am straight up new to getting hit with viruses. It was easier when Norton was new on the computer and viruses weren’t to welcome. However, my time ran out with Norton. I got a virus and I don’t know what to do. I deleted the file off the computer and am still running the Avast scanner through my Local Drive. The file that “Win32:Trojan-gen{VC}” was attached to was “WinStart001.EXE”. I’m so scared. Help please. I’m not as literate on the computer though I can get myself around. Please be gentle. :cry:

tell avast to clean the file or move it to chest.
and run an online scan at http://housecal.trendmicro.com
to see what the trend engine will do with the file.

Try this one: http://www.igetnet.com/downloads/uninstall_igetnet.asp

I have the same prob with this virus…

raman, I went to that link, but what exactly will running that program do?

tks

It will do what is designed to, it will uninstall the getnet plugin, but you can of course let it clean by Spybot of Adaware.

I’ve been a little busier since school was trying to let out. I got on here trying to go to both pages. Raman, I went to the one you gave me and did it. It uninstalled some ignet program or something of that sort. The other one that I went to which was suggested didn’t work in internet explorer ro netscape navigator:http://housecal.trendmicro.com/
Please tell me what to do now if you get a chance. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Please post a hijackthis log: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Download then unzip the file and double click on the “HijackThis” icon.
When finished loading click on the “Scan button”.
Next click on the “Save Log” button. Save the log somewhere you will remember and open the log file with notepad. Then copy the contents and paste them in a reply to be checked. (

trend will not work if activeX is disabled and it works only in IE 5.5 or 6.0

Ugh! I just downloaded this software today because I noticed space being used on my hard drive and I started the scan, and found this virus win32:trojan-gen {vc} . It has infected c:\windows\system\winstart001.exe. Does anyone have any clue what I need to do to get rid of this? I am new to antivirus software and viruses in general. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sarah
