Cursor disappears

I am using Avast 4.8 along with Vista.

When I am typing in programs such as IE8, Outlook, Word etc, I type for say 15 secs and the cursor has disappeared off the page, returns say 5-10 secs later by which time I have missed several words.
It is really is frustrating.
When I turn off Avast, it doesn’t happen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Hi Robbo30!

Is there any other antivirus or security application on your computer?
Or has there one been before?
If yes, which one and how did you remove it?

  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?
  • In XP/Vista, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’?
  • Which other programs are running in background?

Guys

Thanks for your replies, interesting news…

I only use Windows Defender, part of Vista.

Now, having checked Event viewer and in particular admnistrative events under custom views, it is littered with errors and warnings. For example between 11.24.12 & 12.06.14, there are 19 errors and under the source column, they are listed as either ‘search’ or ‘vss’.

In fact under administrative events, there are 4667 events, all errors or warnings.

Would appreciate your help.

Rob

Can you post some of the errors descriptions (not the information and warnings right now)?
It’s difficult to troubleshoot what we can even guess is happening in your computer… ::slight_smile:

Here are some of the decriptions of the errors.

The Open Procedure for service “PNRPsvc” in DLL “C:\Windows\system32\pnrpperf.dll” failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.

The Collect Procedure for the “EmdCache” service in DLL “C:\Windows\system32\emdmgmt.dll” generated an exception or returned an invalid status. The performance data returned by the counter DLL will not be returned in the Perf Data Block. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the exception code or status code.

None of them seems to be related to cursor disappearing…
Can you call a savvy person to help you in loco?

How much RAM does the system have?

Again, thanks Guys for your help.

I have 2gb ram

I have resolved the matter of sorts…

I have stopped the following processes

BJPSmain.exe
sprtcmd.exe
and Nero files

The problem has stopped, no co-incidence, I am optimisitic.

Will keep you posted with a final resolution

Thanks again

Rob

From which application do these files belong?
