CVE-2012-2897

I have a MAC and am running a program to convert PDFs to a mag. When I load the PDFs, up comes a virus warning immediately for a file within Username/Application/ApplicationSupport/Temp…this is picked up by the File System Shied. On the net this is mentioned as a vulnerability with TrueType fonts on Windows. Not sure if this is on my machine or with the program or if it came in a PDF that was sent to me. My question: can this infect a MAC or can I pass it on to someone with Windows?

Pondus just replied that I should post in the MAC section. Have read that this affects Windows, but on the Adobe form seems to affect MACS as well. Anyone out there know more about this and how to get rid of it?

Not sure if this virus is on my computer or with the program that I was running. Please advise!

Update: I typed 2896 rather than 2897! This is something to do with TrueType

Hello,
it looks that it’s some temporary file which fulfil conditions of that CVE, try to scan the final PDF and I think that it will be OK.

Milos

I am not sure what you mean…could you explain?

The original PDF is not detected when you scan it?

Milos

No the original file is not detected when I scan it. Only when I use the PDF conversion program, Avast flags the temp folder where the conversion is created.

send the undetected file to virus@avast.com for analysis.
