D Drive has disappeared

I think I have a virus which has caused my D Drive to disappear. I know that the computer is seeing the drive (even though it claims it does not exist) as it boots from the D Drive, but, I cannot see it and Avast cannot scan it as it cannot see it either. I had to re-install Avast (Home 4) because when I tried to do a system scan Avast showed a window saying " VPS was destroyed" whatever that means.

So, my problem is this. My D Drive is not being seen by my PC exept for boot up, Avast cannot see it and so cannot scan it and I think the virus also disabled Avast, which is why I had to re-install it. Can anyone help me please as I am desperate not to have to re-format the drive (Oh I have a seperate C Drive too which seems fine) my D Drive has a video I was editing on it and I really don’t want to have to re-edit the entire thing if I can avoid it.

Many thanks

Carol
