For the last couple of weeks, every day when we turn the computer on, we get a ‘threat blocked’ notification. I know that ‘blocked’ is good news, but the daily part means that its obviously in my computer. Its always the same URL. I’ve done a little searching, but since I don’t really understand what I’m finding out, it hasn’t helped! lol
Anyway, its very, very long and ends with x.euphoria.sinkdns.org/eiffelcam1.jpg. I’ve found that euphoria.sinkdns.org is a blacklisted site, but the other folks that have been having issues all have different things after the .org on the address. I’ve searched for the eiffelcam1, and have found nothing.
I’m not sure how worried to be, but malware is nothing to play around with, so any help or information that I could receive would be wonderful.
[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
Alright, I ran the fix on OTL, and am attaching the logs–both the one from the fix and the one from the quick scan afterwards. If it keeps acting up, I’ll do a screen shot.
Is this just the first boot of the day or every boot ?
Download and Install Combofix
Download ComboFix from one of the following locations: Link 1 Link 2
VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks
I think that the notification pops up at every boot, and it just popped up again! sigh. Since I had a screenshot, I was able to compare URLs exactly. I should have thought of comparing them before, because they’re similar, but not exactly the same. I’m attaching the combofix log, and the new screenshot. Thanks, Eva
Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it’s “Save Target As”, in FF it’s “Save Link As”) to download Silent Runners.
[*]Save it to the desktop.
[*]Run Silent Runner’s by doubleclicking the “Silent Runners” icon on your desktop.
[*]You will receive a prompt: Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
click NO
[*]If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won’t run as it’s supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
[*]You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it’s not done, let it run (it won’t appear to be doing anything!)
[*]Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here. NOTE If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
The number of characters in the report went past the allowed limit. I attached the log instead of pasting as I was instructed. I’m assuming it will be fine?
[*]If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
[*]Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
Well, I scanned with the TDSSKiller, but the report refuses to allow itself to be copied or attached. It will let me ‘select all,’ but I have no right-click function at all, neither will it let me drag it anywhere. The program said that it found no threats, and I’ve attached a screen shot of that, and an equally useless screen shot of the first page of the report for your perusal. I’m not sure what to do next.
And, here’s the other screen shot, though I know it doesn’t help…I don’t know what else to do.
Just wondering, do rabbits get angry when you search for them? My computer is acting increasingly odd. I tried to reboot after the scan and it tried to log off for 30 minutes before I finally pushed the power button. It’s never done that before.
Following this thread as I am experiencing excatly the same. Same popup each time I open the computer, - avast says its blocked - all is safe.
From what I read in this post it seems that the things you have tried have really had no effect, is that correct understood ?
Just checking, cause no need to go through the same process if it doesnt help anything …
I didnt initially think it was ‘on my computer’ but more an attempt from outside to try to ‘get into my computer’ but that this had been blocked ?
(just adding, I am no expert on computers, just a simple user with avast)
Well, for me things have changed. Ever since Avast installed their very large up-date yesterday morning, I’ve not seen the malware notification at all. I’ve had some trouble getting the computer to shut down…it tries to ‘log off’ for so long that I finally have to just push the power button. So something still seems to be awry, but I’ve got no new screenshot, or anything to add. Could the up-date have banished the rabbit? Or has it taken a new form? Maybe nothing’s wrong at all.
Helen, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve got a similar problem, but you’ve come to the right place to receive help! Though not from me. lol Best wishes on that.
So, Sir Essex, if you think there is still something that I need to do, I await your instructions. Thank you for all your help.
