I used to get a green box come up on my screen once or twice a day with a woman’s voice saying Avast has been updated. But two weeks ago this stopped happening. When I click on Avast it say’s everything is up to date, but I am not so sure as it seems strange it used to update at least once a day now nothing
Any ideas on what I can do to get the daily updates back?
The updates are still happening:
– Auto Update Notifications are screwed up, sorry about getting technical ;D.
The popup is actually meant to be the auto update notification (check your avastUI > Settings > Update and you will see that an auto update has just taken place. It appears that these tips/ad popups are piggybacked onto the auto update notification popup and this looks like it messes up the display and sound for the auto update notifications.
If you browse the forums you will see several topics relating to a known bug about updates.
no auto update notification popup (commonly displays an avast! tip - FB Privacy, instead).
no audio voice over for the auto update.
the popup delay timings don’t appear to work either.
These tips popups have in the past been piggybacked with the auto update update notification, so the only way to get rid of them would be to disable the auto update notification, which if you want the update notification (when it works correctly) would remove everything.
Yes avast will have to fix it, but it isn’t a security related issue. I have two systems Win XP Pro and win7 32bit and it is intermittent if the issue resolves itself or not. Some times I get the normal update notification popup and voice over and think, good its resolved and then I could end up with the weird avast! Tip: popup and no voice over.
So I guess it isn’t a simple issue to fault find when the problem is intermittent.
There’s another factor involved, too … avast has shifted a great deal of its def-updating process over to the streaming updates, which don’t trigger any popup. So if you’ve got streaming enabled (I think that’s the default setting now, anyway), you’re probably seeing fewer “regular” updates than in the past.
Those streaming updates are quite frequent, nearly continuous … if you look at the updates info where David referred you to, you’ll probably see that the most recent one was only a minute or two ago, as compared to the latest “real” version which is typically a few hours back.
I understand it’s not a issue as such with the security so will not be high up on the priority list to resolve. I think more than anything it was reassuring letting me know all is well. Silly really.
Yes I see the streaming updates are often, pleased I don’t get all fo them pop up ;D
If needed one will get two updates a day.
With the shields detection getting a place of its own,
the overall scope of the av is much more robust anyway.
On a side-note then.
Well some here on the forums are constantly checking avast! detection levels. ;D
and feeling the avast! av-solution’s pulse.
Furthermore these users are not that easily satisfied.
Believe me and after over 8 years being extensively committed to the avast forum cause,
I may have come to know that avast! is running with the best in the field!
I lost my virus definition update notices and voice as well after updating to the newest Avast! I had both check marks under community features unchecked. I decided to try checking them both and restarting my computer. Now I have my voice and update pop ups working again.
Try opening Avast! and going to settings. Choose appearance on the left and scroll all the way down to Community features and make sure both boxes are checked. Restart computer and hopefully your definition updates and voice will return.
