DATA BASE FILE (VPS) DESTROYED

I can’t use the avast after several tries to reinstall. The error found is Error 42040 "Data Base File (VPS) destroyed. My version is 4.7, running on Windows Vista Home Premium. And I can’t either uninstall it using the uninstalling utility to reinstall correctly, because it even affects my internet connection. What can I do?.

Please help!!!

Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

I added the set up log plus the error log.

I would appreciate your help. Let me know what else you need.

Thanks, MGC

Yeah, the log says the .vps file is not being downloaded correctly.
Do you have any other security program in this computer?
Any firewall? Other antivirus? Had in the past?
Can you manually download http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/vpsupd.exe
and execute it? Does it work?

Hi:

I do not have any other firewall, except the windows one. I used to have Mcafee antivirus, but it expired in December and after that I installed the avast this January. All my problems started when I tried to unistall the avast to install a new version of Mcafee, using the unistalling tool. Even internet explorer and windows media player did not run properly. I had to restore my system to a previous restoring point to solve the problem, but still I am without an antivirus.

I could download the vpsupd.exe, but it did not run. The error message is:
Can´t install vps update. Please report following errorcodes:
SI:0x00000002
ST:0x00000002
LE:0x00000000

I would appreciate your help. At least I should be able to unistall the avast and install another antivirus.

Regards,

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first (if it works…)
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.
