You posted this in the updates section about SAS

I’m waiting on what is perhaps the best update they can make, the implementation of incremental update, I get truly p****d at having to download the complete database for a few additions in the signatures when on dial-up.

Would it do any good to as them about this. I know what you mean about waiting for the d/l.

Thanks

I already have as a Pro paid version user, their response was less than useful.

They spouted it was to guarantee database integrity, or some such garbage as avast is able to incorporate incremental updates and maintain the database integrity.

MBAM is another that also has us downloading the complete database on every update.

I just don’t understand these peoples approach to updates. What is so problematic with incremental updates, it would save them huge amounts of bandwidth if nothing else and the poor saps on dial-up could get on with their life than wait for large downloads for what is in effect few signature updates.

MBAM are working towards incremental updates:

This should be good for you.

I live in hope ;D

Many do.

Thanks God… They have nothing to lose… It’s a must have implementation.

It absolutely is and one which would see me buy the pro version and set updates to automatic.

I was testing the Comodo Anti Virus in its Internet Security Suite…

The installation file was around 38 MB but the initial database update was about 120MB

;D

Long live incremental updates, crossing fingers, wishing on a star.

Well, I did contact them about it and will let you know what they tell me…

Another reason DavidR doesn’t use Comodo. His computer can’t possibly last long enough to download the Virus Data Base on dialup.

Well that wasn’t on my list of reasons not to use comodo, but I can add it ;D

David, this is the response I received from SAS:

SUPERAntiSpyware.com Replied:

Hello,

I believe that our updates are incremental, just the new definitions are added to the current database.

Should I reply to this and if so any suggestions as to what I can say. Not very good at wording things…

Wow, what a response:
First “I believe that our updates are incremental,” which is close to I don’t really know.
Second, if only a few definitions are added, how that amounts to around 5MB is beyond me.

???

I dumped it favor of better utils ages ago, so things might have changed since then, but Spybot S&D used to have the same problem, full-database updates.

I was semi-active on their support forums at the time, and threw a “what about incremental updates?” posting at them once. Don’t know if that ever got anywhere, but they did at least come back with something like “Hmmm, good idea, we’ll have to look into that.”

Unfortunately I don’t feel Spybot S&D is in the top rank of anti-spyware not, whilst it is still a relatively goos program I don’t think it has kept up with malware advancements.
