I have a win xp service pack 2 system … which got an smart xp internet security 2010 attack . I removed it using malwarebytes and installed avast. But from today morning onwards my system got freezed and is taking half an hour to get booted. I was getting dcom attack from some ip/tcp a few times … I cant see my cd drive in My Computer … please help
As per DCOM attacks, get a firewall (unless you use AIS). I can suggest COMODO. About the CD-ROM, it seems the virus ruined your drivers. No idea how can one ever fix that. ???
Once you have this sorted, I would also suggest you get SP3 for XP as it has been out for over 18 months and closes a number of vulnerabilities and also includes some security enhancements.
I would also suggest a visit to this site, which scans your system for out of date programs that have patches to close vulnerabilities, http://secunia.com/software_inspector/.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).
