DCOM Attack

I keep getting an AVAST Notice that a “DCOM attack has been stopped.” What is DCOM and should I be worried?

Thanks.

I would be more worried about other potential attacks that aren’t monitored by the network Shield.

Network Shield provider protects your computer from Internet worm attacks. It works similarly to a firewall, even though it does not fully substitutes it. The Network Shield does not require any user interaction.

What is your firewall (you do have a firewall) ?

I have Comodo Personal Firewall, Ver:2.4.16.174.

Very strange I would have thought that it would have intercepted the DCOM intrusion rather than the Network Shield, which is pretty much belt and braces. These DCOM attacks are just speculative in the hope that your system isn’t up to date and vulnerable to the exploit to insert a worm into your system.

Comodo should take care of the other firewall protection and if required Network Shield can act as a back-up to it. The thing is do you want to be scared to death each time network shield blocks an intrusion (nothing will get in).

You can click the customize button in the network shield provider and effectively switch it to silent operation (uncheck the show warning messages) block but no notification. Personally I like to know what is going on around me and my system and

Thanks for your help. No I don’t want to be afraid all the time. It was something new and I just wasn’t sure about it.
Best Regards.

No problem, welcome to the forums.
