I’m trying to install a piece of free, open-source software called DCP-o-matic from the website dcpomatic.com
This software is used to create Digital Cinema Packages and is currently used by cinemas throughout the world (including my own place of work).
I am trying to install it on my home computer, but Avast! keeps reporting, “Win64:Evo-gen (susp)” and then it seems to break or remove parts of the dcpomatic.exe file so it can’t be installed.
I have sent a false positive report via the Avast! software, but in the meantime is there any way I can install this software withought Avast! removing it. I really need to be using it!
I can’t seem to stop Avast! from removing the .exe file as soon as it downloads, even though I have put the folder I am downloading it to in the Avast! exclusions.
Because of this I have been unable to upload the file to those test sites.
Okay, so I downloaded the file to an old laptop without Avast! and then uploaded it to MetaScan.
The result was “0 out of 40 scan engines found a threat”.
I tried virustotal, but kept getting a website error, and Jotti seems to be too busy at the moment.
0 out of 40 sounds clean to me! ha, so what is it that Avast! is detecting as a problem I wonder.
I can't seem to stop Avast! from removing the .exe file as soon as it downloads
Excluding the download folder will not work since it is very likely the webshield that detects it.
You didn't had to download it on another system, you could have disabled the avast shield for e.g. 10 minutes.
And it is not a false positve, it is detected as a PUP.
I didn’t mention before, but it is the Windows 64bit version I have been trying to use, so thanks for the VirusTotal scan.
What’s the criteria for a PUP? Is it something Avast! flags up if it’s a file they are unaware of but contains software that could potentially be harmful (but could also be harmless too).
