I have a file I KNOW is not a virus… KNOW, not THINK. I do not “think” it “might” be a virus, I know for a fact that it is not a virus. I’m not guessing here. I am 100% sure the file is not a virus. I don’t know how much clearer I can be on this point.
And Yet, AVAST keeps flagging it as a virus and deleting it whenever I try and and use it. The only way I can find to stop Avast from doing this is to turn Avast’s “File System Shield” off… which kind of defeats the purpose of having such a thing! How do I create exception list for the "File System Shield’? I’m asking because I’ve been through every menu in Avast and I can’t find it. Does it even exist?
Yes, I submitted the file as a false positive. No, that doesn’t help me.
I have a file I KNOW is not a virus... KNOW, not THINK.
so.....can you show us ?
upload the file to www.virustotal.com and test with 40+ malware scanners (if scanned before click rescan)
when you have the result, copy the url and post it here so we can see
when did you send it as false positive?
how did you send it?
We are no clairvoyants. We do not lay cards on a certain detection or watch a crystal ball. We scan real files with names, hashes, scan results. And then we tell you the risk of being infected. You can check yourself at BrightCloud what index you get: red, yellow or green.
We do not know what file extension was scanned. From what origin you got this file onto your computer? Certain files are more malware prone than others. I would not trust pr0n, cracks, circumventing software and so-called warez. Downloads from resources that are frowned upon by commercial parties (P2P, pirated material, etc. etc.) come more often than not with malware attached, bundled with intentional crap. And where are you to complain, you knew the risks from the outset?
So a positive scan result means suspicious, real malware or a false positive. The rest can be filled in using common sense and not kidding yourself. So first question is the file legit?
I didn’t ask for help deciding if a file was a virus or not, I asked for help excluding a file from the on-use scanner. I already know it’s a false-positive, which you would know if you read the first line on the first post I made in this thread. Next time try actualy reading the post before you reply to it, you idiot.
WRONG ANSWER.
I got the solution here, but not from you. You didn’t give me any help, all I got from you was a condescending attitude and pointless questions. How can I loose if you never try and help me again? I asked how to exclude the file, not how to tell if the file was a virus. Instead of answering the question, you insisted that I show you the file. Try getting a job as a tech support professional, and see how far you get with that attitude.
Basically, you assumed that I was a noob that didn’t know how to tell if a file is a virus or not… despite the fact that I very explicitly told you that I did, in fact know that the file was NOT a virus. And then you insisted that I must be wrong, and that I must show you the file so you could decide for me if the file was a virus or not. If you worked in tech support and I was your boss, you would be so fired right now.
Your first clue that you didn’t answer my question should have been when I told you that you didn’t answer my question. I’m done trying to explain to you how what you did was not helpful.
Guess what? On a support forum, everyone new gets thrown in the “noob box”…you might not belong there, but that is always the safest assumption to make when dealing with a blank slate.
How to exclude a file you “know” is not a virus…so smart to know that, yet clueless how to navigate a simple UI and figure out exclusions yourself?
You know why he wouldn’t tell you? Because when someone comes here wanting what you want, it is almost always some kid trying to get his crack/keygen to work…and that is not something that is supported here. The fact that you where so deliberately non-disclosing about the file from the start only supports this theory. No offense intended if I am wrong or right.
So, you’re applying guilt-by-assumption now? Seriously?
Let me get this straight; If someone comes here and asks how to do something that you think MIGHT indicate that he’s a software pirate, you have to ASSUME that he MUST be a software pirate? Because… what? You never stopped to consider that someone might have a legitimate reason why he doesn’t want to show you a particular file? Oh, and since he won’t show you the file, you somehow think that indicates guilt on his part? Do you even see the problem with that kind of attitude?
You don’t have to share for personal reasons. But help can also be refused for personal reasons. Because no one you have spoken to here yet is actually on Avast!'s payroll, so we can all exercise our opinion as we see fit, within the limits of certain common sense ethics.
So guilt by assumption? Yeah, I might practice that, online anyhow. While I see only good sense (not problems) with that attitude, you apparently feel otherwise, so I will respectfully bow out of your topic.
folks here are trying to help u analyse the file to give recommendations if u should exclude it. yet u refuse and blame them for not answering ur qn…
do u know they are doing something which is taking more effort than just telling u how to exclude the file…?
on top of that, it is hard to see how ‘technical’ are u in the area of computing when u can’t even navigate around the graphic user interface - which is suppose to help beginners in the first place!
