decompression bomb jacks up my inbox

hey there, if i send a hijack this notepad log, can someone help me get rid of the what is locking up my inbox?
most likley a decompression bomb the avg can see but not delete?
thanks.

Nothing to worry about.

Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8943.msg73950#msg73950

coincedence that my inbox now says ‘unable to write to mailbox… make sure you have enough disk space to copy to mailbox…’ when i try and get my mail?

I would say it is unrelated as the compressed archive file is inert, you have to unpack an archive and then run whatever executable payload contained inside for it to be running and that hasn’t happened.

I would suggest a general clean-up of the email folders, you don’t say what email program you use, but most allow for the compression of folders. This compression removes lots of emails that you may have deleted, the only thing that gets deleted is the listing of the email title, etc. (the same as deleting a file, it isn’t gone just the reference to it in the file allocation table, etc.).

Also if you store lots of emails in the inbox it will grow very large and some email programs might have a limit to its size. Treat the inbox like a pending tray, read the email, take any action needed and put it in a more appropriate email folder, personal, newsletters, etc. so the inbox remains relatively empty with only those you haven’t yet actioned.

Welcome to the forums, simmerhawaii.

Did you open the file containing the decompression bomb?

If you will post your HJT log, someone will take a look at it.
