Hi Everyone

I was requested by one of the youngsters in our family (teen) to see if I could figure out what was causing
weird things happening with their computer. Figured it was a virus so said I would see what I could do.

Took a look.

No anti-virus. Shame on someone.

Downloaded Avast free program. 123 viruses but still wasn’t working properly. This is a vista home edition
OS on a Toshiba. Did another boot scan and up came 2 of the subject title. I don’t know a whole lot about
computers generally and even less about viruses as Avast Pro keeps me on the safe side with my own PC.

Looked at what this child was doing with the computer and they had been downloading music. So the viruses
are self-explanatory and definite parental guidance needed here.

I searched the subject and it seems like the last post was in 2012 so it doesn’t seem like an issue that
appears that often. I think they are contained as Avast made a notion of them and carried on. Now it
seems like it is simply looping as it seems stuck on 68%.

The files (same thing duplicated) were found on C:\Users\CH\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\etc\etc\etc.…

Question: Is the boot-scan simply looping or has the bomb gone off? Should I just wait it out or stop the scan and try again?

Thanks for your help

Well the possibilities are boundless. Who know’s what may have ocurred.
I would suggest having one of our Malware Removal Specialists have a look

Generally, the term “Decompression Bomb” simply refers to a very large archive file.
Such files are not inherently harmful, but if expanded to scan, etc. may eat a lot of
resources.

Have you read this thread?

What exactly is a DECOMPRESSION BOMB ?
