Recent scan found a .dat file as being a decompression bomb. Can’t delete or move it. This is an unknown to me. I have a logical guess that it arrived within an archive. Anyone have any info please?
- Decompression Bomb, a file that is highly compressed, which could be very large when decompressed. This used to be a tactic long ago to swamp the system, also see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=15389.msg131213#msg131213.
The name really is the most dangerous thing about this and I wish they would change it or simply not report it, a real PITA.
Thank you David for the quick reply and the link. I checked it out and has some good info. Here’s a little more detail about my request. This .dat file is in a Federal Income Tax filing that I backed up. I used a very well known and used tax prep program and this kind of surprised me. I must say that I was prepared to just ignore it and you made that a comfortable decision. Indeed, a PINA !
No problem, glad I could help.
