Hello, recently my mother has been told she has “8 viruses” on her computer.
me, being her son, am the tech guy of the house. i have my fair bit of knowledge of computers, and i have done a bit of research on this topic specifically, however, the only relating topics i have found have to do with the system backup.
After running a full system scan, avast has given me a list of 11 different reports of decompression bombs within her OEM folder.
an example of one of the files is as follows:
“C:\OEM\Preload\APP\3DME\3DMe_OEM-PreloadVersion_1.1.0.551-setup.exe|>$_OUTDIR\3dme_Data\sharedassets1.assets”
the reason this concerns me is because they all contain a .exe file in the address and they all point to strange places like the %appdata% folder or the OUTDIR directory.
as far as i can tell, these have nothing to do with the already covered “decompression bombs in the backup manager”
i am aware that it is normal for the OEM to have highly compressed files in it as it contains the system image, but these 11 file locations are the only thing that avast reported after doing a full system scan. (unless the person lied about my mom’s computer having viruses, these are the only explaination i can come to)
can anyone give any advice on what to do here.
