Dedler.g found by AVG

Another computer that has AVG resident on my small network reported the Dedler.G worm present on my computer (running Avast!) in the destination folder when attempting to copy a file to my computer from the AVG protected computer.

I scanned the file in question with Avast! and it reported nothing. After researching the Dedler worm, I’m convinced I am infected as the symptoms match mine. So how do I proceed? Is this virus not in the Avast! definitions?

I read about the virus at McAfee: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=122235&affid=125

Hi,

if the worm/file is not detected by uptodate avast, then please send it in a password-protected zip-file to:
virus@avast.com

include description/link to here and zip-password in the mailtext

follow mafee descritions to get rid of it, and secure your PC/your shares, change your passwords… etc…

Ok. I sent the zip file reporting the virus. Also removed the virus. There were no registry entries that typically need to be removed, fortunately. I believe the virus was dormant in the .exe files and was never executed, despite an Autorun.ini file that was supposed to run it when the folder was accessed. I’m now attempting to make my network more secure.

Thanks,
Esteban
