Definitions updated since the 22nd?

Has anyone gotten definition updates since the 22nd? My current version is 100123-0. Haven’t had an auto update since then and manual update says I have the most recent version. Just wondering if I have a problem or if updates are slow at the moment.

yep, 100124.0 here

I tried doing manual update and it says I have the current version 100124-0 but I don’t. Now I’m getting a warning saying definitions are out of date! I’ve tried manipulating all the settings and nothing works.

There are still too many bugs in this version. I’m going back to 4.8 till Alwil can get this sorted out.

were you using the latest and now official avast 5 build?

There’s been a few. Right now, I have 100124-0 released 01/24/2010 6:52:38 AM. On manually checking for updates, Avast5 states already up to date.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

DavidR, I’ve tried Repair, didn’t work. I’m just gonna use 4.8 till it’s no longer supported. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Norel, before you switch, in Avast5 Settings do you have “Participate in the avast! community” checkmarked? If not, do so and close the avast interface. Restart Windows, and see if it checks for updates a few minutes after login. If no do a manual check for updates. Let us know, please.

I wouldn’t be giving up just yet, as 5.0 offers better protection. No 4.8 isn’t broken, but it did need a serious overhaul. Or we would all be running round in model T Fords ;D

I would suggest a clean reinstall before giving up on what is a better AV.

+1 ... you're giving up too quickly, and you did experience a minor issue...

Daiidr, sometimes the model T is a better choice when the Vet keeps breaking Down. But this is a minor issue

I haven’t given up on avast!5. I’m sure it will be every bit as good as 4.8 in the end but right now it’s still a little too unpredictable for me. I’m happy for those who’ve had good results but for now I’ll settle for my trusty Model-T.

The reason I originally when to 5.0 was cause 4.8 used to have a modest amout of errors pulling down to update. It would error on it own updates that it didn’t recognize signatures. Still does that sometimes, had one yesterday

I ended up going back to 5. When I reinstalled 4.8 I started getting blue screen of death which never happened before at all. So far all seems okay. It updated right after installing but it’s still to early to tell. The new version doesn’t seem to tolerate much changing of the defaults which I hate. Hopefully it will stabilize over time.
