Delay after Standby in XP

New to the forum - greetings!

  • For security I’m running Avast 4.7 and ZoneAlarm 6.5
  • My cable modem is always on
  • Power profile: Monitor ONLY shuts off after 20 minutes
  • VRDB generation disabled

For some reason I’m having trouble establishing an internet connection after monitor standby. It usually comes around after 5-10 minutes, but I can connect immediately (e-mail and browser) if I reboot.

Is this related to Avast or ZoneAlarm? Are they updating in the background and delaying my access? Thanks …

I don’t think it’s related to software… don’t see any particular reason why any background action should be related to monitor shutting down.
What kind of monitor do you have? For example, any chance you have a USB hub inside and something connected to it? What are your exact power-management settings?

HP Pavilion mx704 monitor that came in the bundle. Nothing else connected to it.

Power Mgt is literally just “TURN OFF MONITOR AFTER 20 MINS” – system and hard disks always running.

I guess I could try turning off the monitor standby. I’ll check the ZoneAlarm forum too.
