Delete Prefetch contents?

Hi all,

I was having a lot of the problems that others have had with Avast.

This is going to sound really, really stupid, but, after searching for a “fix” here and not finding anything, I got fed up and thought, “Where else is Avast on my system.”

When I searched the Prefetch folder I found a number of Avast entries. So, I cleaned out the contents of the Prefetch folder (including “layout.ini”), hit the reset button and it took about 3 minutes to boot, but, no more Avast problems!

I haven’t a clue as to whether this will work for you, but it did for me.

Just my 2¢

The prefetch folder should have sort itself out and this is something under the control of the OS.

The entries there aren’t copies of the whole file just location information to speed up loading. I’m surprised if they would have had this impact, now there is a possibility that still being in the prefetch folder they would be looking for the presence of or trying to load these files. In which case I would have expected a windows error ‘couldn’t find file’ or wording to that effect.
