delete prior day's update

Have newest version of Avast.
Question: Each day a message pops up saying avast database has been updated.
These updates seem to buid up space. Can you delete previous day’s update?

thanks

No.
And the daily updates are just a few KB’s (50 ~ 200 each).

Avast does its own housekeeping after a short time period previous defs folders are dropped off by avast, so you shouldn’t have to do anything. Doing so manually could cause problems as they may still be referenced, not to mention you may bump into the avast self-defence module.

As you can see from my image avast has cleaned house I only have the one created earlier today.

The individual updates aren’t the issue, what is, is the creation of the new defs sub-folder and that is effectively a duplicate of the old one with the incorporation of the new signatures.

The new defs sub-folder is likely to be of the order of 50MB not 50KB.

Oops… my bad.
I thought the question was about individual updates… anyway, I agree with your first post and I’m sorry for the miss understanding.

thanks for all your info…

You’re welcome.

can you delete prior defs sub-folder?

can you delet prior defs sub-folder?

Please read my first post again, I have highlighted the relevant part:

Like David has said, avast! does it’s own housekeeping…

Look at the images, the first is from when I last updated. (I actually took this to use to explain earlier but David beat me to it :D)

The second was just taken and you will notice that the old folder has been removed.

I am not actually sure when it happens but it is done
