Dear All,
I was running the avast pre windows XP boot scan and a couple of files were ID as being infected. Avast couldn’t repair them so I deleted; bad idea! It seems I have deleted all my emails and address book files. Is there any way to recover them?
Best Regards
EMS
Welcome to the forum.
You actually had 3 choices - Repair - delete and Place in Virus Chect.
Once deleted, it’s gone. The safe choice is always to place the items into the
virus chest where it’s safe, can’t harm your computer and, if it turns out to be a false positive, can be recovered.
At this point, you could try a system restore or a restore from a back up provided you’re making regular backups.
If you are really quick you might be able to recover the deleted file using a deleted file recovery application like Recuva there are some free applications but many are paid options. Files that are deleted are usually still present (just the name and location is removed from the file table), so you may be able to recover the file if the space hasn’t already been used by another file.
Most utilities which recover deleted files will give you some kind of indication, with regard to any specific file, of how likely it is that the recovery will be successful.
Aside from this being a paid option, this being your first post and we have no idea of your association with this software.
This won’t help the user as a) we don’t know if they are even using Outlook or (OE).
If the do happen to have Outlook/OE suspect they have deleted the .dbx, .pst files, so it isn’t corrupt or damaged but not there at all:
Recovers deleted emails from corrupt or damaged .DBX files of Outlook Express
David, if you agree, I’ll delete the post. Seems spam.
I would agree as a) it is likely to be of use to the OP and b) suspect promotion of a paid product given this is a first post.
