I am using MSOutlook Express, and I need to know how can I set the system to delete the infacted mails automaticaly / by default?
Hi,
imho this is only possible with the Prof-Edition of avast
I am evaluating/demoing the Pro version. Please guide me how can I do it? I need all the virus infacted emails to be deleted.
Thanks
The whole mails cannot be deleted (this is IMHO impossible for a generic mail proxy program to do) but you can instruct avast to automatically remove all the infected files from it.
To do this, start avast, switch to the Enhanced User Interface, go to the Tasks folder, right-click ‘Resident Protection’, and select Change. Then scroll to the Internet Mail provider (in the tree on the left), Virus page. Remove the Interactive selection item, and instead insert the Delete (or Move to Chest) item.
Save the changes and you’re all set.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
Then, is there any way to re-write the subject field of the infected emails?
or
Move the infected emails to a different email folder?
I thought this was the behavior of the Heuristic module… :
I think you can only do this into Outlook (not Express)… :
Avast can add some stuff to the message body (a warning) but I’m not sure if one can create a rule in Outlook Express that will act depending on the body contents.
We had a small discussion here about this and it seems that we’ll be adding the Subject field change functionality as well…
Thanks

I created outlook express Mail Rule to delete any message that contains “avast! Antivirus: Inbound message INFECTED:” text.
When Avast find any infected mails it is inserting this text.
However, it is not working… Anyone tried it.
Exactly, we have seen the same behavior.
Seems like OE bug to me…
I don’t think it is an OE bugs…
I tested this method of creating a mail rule with two other anti-virus software [NOD32 and QuickHeal] both of them are doing the jobs as per my OE mail rule.
I strongly feel that the Avast development team will agree with me that deleting or moving the infected mails to another folder is a vital feature for a anti-virus software, particularly after the outbreak of MyDoom.
Thank you,
