Dell XPS 8500 PSU Question

Hey, I didn’t know where to post this question. Seemed like the best place… I’m looking to upgrade my GPU in my Dell XPS 8500 from a GT 620 (No X) to a GTX 770. The wattage difference is 181. What I don’t know is the standard PSU in the machine. Is their anyways to easily find out? I don’t really want to go to Dell Support in the case of most if not all things cost $$. So I thought I’d ask around here.

ANY help is appreciated.

Thanks
Michael.

Well, here is the dell link for original system configuration. http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/xps-8500

Since only you have the service tag, you’ve to enter that to get your exact configuration. Should be something there re PSU specs as shipped.

No charge for dell support here doing it this way.

I don’t think that the PSU is your only issue in regards to overall power output being able to cope with the extra power requirement.

You need to check the graphics card and see if it requires a six pin power connector, over and above the power drawn from the PCI-E x 16 port/connection.

Hi Alan.

I think the best place to get an answer is here:

Let any of DeLL RockStar; shesagordie, SpeedStep, or any other give you advice. They have been trying and buying DeLL equipments and parts for years. They can give you directions of any original or replacement parts for your comp needs.

Good luck
