Deploy avast! on multiple Subnets

Here is my situation (hopefully not unique).

Our business has a couple of subnets (192.168.1.X and 192.168.2.X) one for our headquarters and one for our warehouse which is a block away. These two locations connect to each other via a VPN tunnel between SonicWalls at each location.

I have installed avast! Business Protection Plus on one of our servers at the 192.168.1.X subnet and was able to deploy avast on all the computers with that same subnet, however; I cannot deploy avast to our 192.168.2.X subnet (our warehouse). I can ping the computers at the 192.168.2.X subnet, navigate their directory structures through windows exporer and even remote desktop to them.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Do you make use of a domain and are those other computers part of that domain?

Yes, we use a domain (Windows 2008 Small Business Server Premium) and all of the warehouse computers are members of the domain.

did you create a multihomed server (several IP adressen for the server) or do you use a router to route the network traffic?

Our SBS has multiple network cards but all are teamed up into a single virtual adapter (HP Network Config Utility) with a single IP address. This SBS server is also our DHCP and Preferred DNS server for all of the computers including the warehouse computers.

Hi ccrane,

try access the client from the sbc host by typing “net use x: $c” if fail what is the error message or you can do the manual install for the different subnet by browse the installation file to http://avast/install.aspx?prod=bp from the client.

Ok, I tried the net use and I get error 67 (“The network name cannot be found”). In the DNS Manager I can see the entries for my 5 computers that I need to deploy avast to with the correct IP Addresses (192.168.2.100, 192.168.2.134, etc). I can probably install from the host machine, but my admin will be see and manager these computers.

I had to turn on File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks on the properties of the network card for the machine that could not be resolved. Hope this helps you.

Business Protection Plus, Server 2008… It’s the firewall on the server allowing the management port from the local subnet only by defualt… See this post over here:

That thread is mine. I just finally got everything going and working well. I am using SOA
Things you need to make sure:
GPO that enables file and print sharing
GPO that allows port 25322 through all firewalls
make sure that port is allow through any other hardware firewalls.

You can PM me or comment here if you have any other questions.
