Desktop Installation problem

Was having a hard time downloading the file and came here and read to save it to desktop which I did. Now here is the problem. I had avast before and due to a screw up with my internet provider I had to uninstall it thru Add/Remove Hardware. Well it appears there is some files still on my computer and when I click the Avast desktop icon I only get 2 options…to uninstall or change…tried using change and it did not load up the file. Do I need to use the uninstall? I have such a slow dialup internet that this would be the 8th time I would have to try to download the full 18 mb file again. Any sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Tried to uninstall thru control panel and received this:

“Error”

A setface error has occurred 2
Try to reinstall or contact support

Which is why Tech gave the link to the uninstall utility as it can recover from a failed uninstall using add remove programs.
