I changed me internet access from dial-up to DSL. do I still need my software firewall (comodo)?
Unless you have a firewall in the router yes
Even if you do have a router with hardware firewall it is most likely that it only offers inbound protection. So a software firewall like Comodo is advised in order to also protect the outbound connections.
Most certainly and probably more so if you remain connected for long periods of time.
The same reason you needed a firewall on dial-up applies to DSL (outbound connection protection as Hard_ROCKER mentioned).
Fully agree 8)
Now that you’re on xDSL it might also be a good idea to get a dynamic IP
how is that ???
If you have a modem, just turning it on and off will give you a new IP dynamic.
Each time you connect you get a new one.
Some modems allow ‘refresh’ IP and you’ll get a new one.
Dynamic is an IP that is assigned each time you connect rather than ‘fixed’ which remains the same and can come under a more sustained attack as the IP doesn’t change.
However, the greatest majority of suppliers will be using a dynamic IP and you usually have to ask for (and probably pay) a fixed IP address.
Well said guys !
Having a Dynamic IP is a really good idea these days , especially if you’re into p2p …
Which you really shouldn’t be

sir, i have the same instance with you, do you have problems in connecting LIMEWIRE?( sorry for off-topic)
Hi all
Here (Australia) some ISPs have static IP address by default or only offer static so check with your ISP to be sure.
If you have problems with p2p software being blocked by Comodo you probably need to open a port for your p2p program …
