Did Avast Send This Message

I just received this message with a url to change my password. I did not click on the url. Did this message come from Avast?

If it did, I will click on the url and change my password.

Thanx.

I don’t see any option on the forum profile page to get prompted through mail about changing your password regularly. So I’m wondering how you got that mail…>>> don’t do anything. I f you still want to change your password do it directly on the forum interface but don’t use the link provided in the mail you got.

ps: you’re talking about the forum password right, not about an Avast account password?

edit: I don’t see such an option on the avast account page either.

The first thing that I suggest you do is remove your email address from public display, it could be harvested by spambot trawling public web sites.

Second without any information about the content it is hard to say as although you say why you
There are legitimate reasons why you would get emails, after registering in the forums, etc. The IP address when checked using whois shows it is assigned to avast.com, see image.

In this case it could be that someone with a similar user name had a typo and entered the password for their account this would fail. They may then have asked for the password to be emailed (forgotten password) and inadvertently that goes to your email address.

I have had one such email some time ago and I hadn’t said I had forgotten my email.

Thanks all. I haven’t done anything and it is for the forum and
not the account. However, the email has my user ID correct.
That seems a bit weird. The heading looks like it probably came
from Avast. But if they get into my forum account I don’t know
that it could hurt anything.

I did go over and change the passwords on some very important
accounts to make sure they are protected. I recently had someone
hack into my ftp account and download some malware, but google
and malware busters saw it and flagged me. It took about a day
and a half for me to find the problem and remove it and as of
today I am still clean.

Where do these people get the time to waste their lives and creativity
trying to create misery for people they don’t even know? Well, anyway
I have better things to do with my talents.

Thanks much for your input. And have a great day!!

Marion

I can hardly believe no one from avast has posted in this thread yet ::slight_smile:
