Did avast turn insane?

Hi to everybody

I’m avast free antivirus user and generally was satisfied with program (long ago I tried avira, avg kaspersky but they were not good).

my only complain was ever-rising weight of installation files and virus database update. Soon installation file will reach 1 gigabyte I suppose.

however yesterday I faced new problem - my existing avast 10 (from last year) literally blocking and preventing me from downloading latest free avast 11 antivirus from avast.com, telling me it’s infected by win32Evogen virus.

when I complained about it on Russian forum I got reply - I need to delete my avast 10 with avastclear then connect to avast.com and download new installation file from scratch.

Is it not insane?

Once in Nepal my Windows OS crashed and I had to format disk C and install again. Then when I tried to download avast instead I got extremely insidous virus which lives in networks, it’s recorded itself inside my computer, created encrypted zone so I couldn’t see it, and start work from inside, eating all my files and downloading crap from net. It did prevented me from installing not only avast but also malwarebytes and corrupted all my files, documents, even pictures and movies, everything so I had to delete all. Many years of my work I lost in just one day.

And so avast recommends me to do the same again?

yesterday I managed to download installation file of 192 megabytes through smartphone (because computer with avast 10 not letting me to do it), then after deleting old avast with avastclear I found new installation file is corrupted and cannot be installed.

absolute insanity without reason, I think avast intentionally complicates lives of its hapless users so they should move to another antivirus

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[
]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

Soon installation file will reach 1 gigabyte I suppose.
Nope, installation file (size depends on the version) is roughly between 200 Mb and 300 Mb including the latest vps.

There never has been a version 10 nor a version 11.
There was version 8 and the next version was 2014.x

Sorry to hear you lost a lot of files, but there is a reason why the option to create a backup was invented.

avast is not complicating things at all.

What is your current problem/question ?

There is if you refer to build numbers as was used on previous versions

I already have used avastclear but main problem - I cannot download new installation file of Avast Free Antivirus because existing avast 2015.10.2.2218 keeps deleting it.

Why?

Did you tried to download from there ?

If it fails disable the avast shields and try again.

I tried to download installation filw from avast.com. because I can’t download in one session I have to make breaks during them avast is deleting incomplete file saying it’s infected. When I tried to download avast on smartphone I managed to complete download however avast keep deleting it saying it’s infected

Try: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe

My post had direct links for all versions

I know, but that’s the link for the online installer.

True I had the offline ones

this is exactly where I got my file. is it infected or not?

No as it is the direct link from the Avast server

It isn’t infected but, since you download in stages, it could very well be corrupted.

let me explain once again - on computer I cannot download avast 11 because existing avast 10 keeps deleting (incomplete) installation file. avast 10 cannot delete it while download going on but once it’s completed I am 100% sure it will disappear (even not moved to carantine but liquidated).

why? because I downloaded complete installation file of new avast 11 on android smartphone and whenever I try to copy it inside computer my avast 10 deleting it saying it’s infected by (same) virus win32 evo gen.

anybody from avast team can explain me why my existing antivirus avast 10 doing this?

Did you try the online installer…? (Reply #9)

Not yet, I’m trying to download vps update currently but I will post follow up on new attempt to download and install new avast

OK, report back.
