Did Update mess up my email

Yesterday I updated my avast free to program version 11.1.2245. I run windows 7.

I use “Windows Live Mail” to check all of my email accounts. I have several. I have Live Mail set to only allow safe senders to come into in box.

Starting last night I am getting unwanted mail coming to the inbox. When I try to delete some of them the Windows Live Mail program freezes.

I found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lSbBb5nn4Q on youtube about a Norton update causing problems by doing something to the email.

I have turned the email protection off on Avast but do not like that idea. During the last hour I have not had a problem deleting emails except the one that was there before I turned off the protection. Unwanted emails are still coming into the in box.

Could this update be causing my problem? Suggestions on what to do?

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?) I guess that would be windows 7 pretty sure 64 bit don’t know what SP/Build. means
  • Other security related software installed…? I have spybot and malwarebytes but they don’t scan unless I tell the to do so
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…? Avast is all I have ever had on this computer

First, be sure to get rid of Spybot…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
