Difference between avast 4.8, 5, and 6 Free Edition

I’m sorry if this topic already been discussed earlier, but I’m still wondering if there are any differences between avast 4.8, 5, and 6 in their free edition. The differences I’d like to know is about performance, memory usage, and virus coverage. It would be much appreciate if you also include proof for the answer.

Thank you very much. Sorry if my English is not good. I’m from Indonesia.

Performance-v6.0.1125 is faster
Memory usage-v6.0.1125 is smaller package
Virus coverage-v6.0.1125 has a high detection rate.

Other-v6.0.1125 has very strong resident shields.
I strongly recommend downloading and using avast!

V6 also has the auto-sandbox feature which can give better zero day protection.

Also both v5 and 6 do not have the (in my opinion) ridiculous media player type gui.

  1. Better - Scans much quicker, optimized, use of persistent and transient cache.
  2. Better - Uses two processes and even they are smaller, see image.
  3. Better - Many more features and functions, generic, heuristic, algorithmic signatures, autosandbox, emulation, etc. etc.

It is not ridiculous, it attracted a lot of people to try avast…

Dont forget that its also got the script shield and behavior shield which were not present in the first to mid stages of the 5 versions.

It was the main thing that kept me away. I couldn’t take the program seriously with a gui like that and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

Correct, but there was many that also liked that GUI

So…the match end 1 - 1

avast 6 is the best by far :stuck_out_tongue:
