I have a girlfriend with a 12 year old daughter. That daughter has her own computer. The computer seems to get viruses VERY OFTEN, and MANY viruses. The computer is over at my house every couple of months because it no longer boots up.
I end up rebuilding the computer and always install the FREE version of Avast, but am wondering if I should suggest that my friend purchase the Pro version of Avast.
I do set Avast so that it will automatically update virus signatures.
Her daughter does do email and also surfs the web. My suspicion is that it’s being infected as she surfs the web. She goes to a lot of online gaming sites. I suspect she is picking up viruses there. If the free version of Avast is alerting her that she’s probably going to a bad site, she’s probably still clicking on the 'YES, I WANT TO GO THERE" and goes there, even if the site is infected.
Would the Pro version of Avast prohibit her from being able to go to an infected site, or would it just alert her and let her go anyway, if she clicks, “YES, I want to go to the site” ?
Any help / suggestions you can give is greatly appreciated. Usually her computer gets to the point that it won’t shut down. This time it got to the point that it wouldn’t boot up. Reformatting the hard drive and reloading the O/S did fix it, so it’s not a case of a bad hard drive. The HD is less than 1 year old.
Thank you for any insight you might have. This is the second computer this little girl has had, so I don’t think it’s the computer. I think it’s viruses.
