I’m a little confused by license and registration. I’m guessing there is a difference, as it seems like my license for avast! Free Antivirus has expired, but not my registration (171 days remaining; I can post screenshots if necessary). Can someone explain the difference to me? What are the features/benefits of each, and how do I carry out each. If there are official avast! web pages that describe these, I’m happy to be pointed to them. I couldn’t find any though.
Thanks for that. On that page I can see clear instructions on how to register. It also implies that registration and licensing are the same thing, and leads to a page where I can “Register for your free Avast 1 year license.”
But I’m still a little unclear on the messages I’m seeing in my avast! GUI. I’ve attached screenshots showing that, while it says I am registered, it also says that my device’s license has expired, and that this version of avast! is not connected to an account.
Do I register once per device? Or do I register only once–for my avast account, to which I can license multiple devices? Perhaps most importantly, if I have to renew my license for this particular device, how can I do so?
There is certainly an area of crossover as the two terms are used in the UI of the Free Version.
Generally you would pay for a Subscription/License Hence the Sub-Section in the Registration to Insert activation code or license file (attached image).
If you had the paid version of avast and inserted that activation code or license, then the User Interface would change to reflect that.
Thanks for that. I certainly have never had the paid version of avast!–only the free version. Would you know how to renew the free license for this device if it has expired?
You still have 171 days remaining - so no rush just yet - when you get to 30 days from re-registration you will get a reminder in the UI and possibly an email.
At that point the Registration window will change to allow for the renewal of the free version registration.
