Avast came up with a file named b.exe in e:\Documents and settings\al\local settings\temp
This drive is no longer bootable but there are many files I want to keep in this directory.
I am able to access all other users under e:\documents and settings\ except al
The entire directory structure from al is protected and I have no access to it. Unlocker does not help, and booting to linux, unfortunately even with root privileges I am able to view but not remove files.
Are you using Windows XP/Vista?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.
Hey, thanks for your input. I downloaded avast home edition, and began running the boot scan you suggested. The biggest problem is that everything subdirectory to the \doc and settings\al\ is unaccessable, and there are many things in that doc directory that I need to retreve. I am unable to boot to the drive, and administrator is able to explore all the other profiles but thsi one is locked.
