I am in a situation where I cannot send any of my files to Avast for security reasons. From what I understand, if I disable CyberCapture then no files will be sent. But looking at the privacy policy, there’s something called FileRep which supposedly can be disabled but for which there is no option.
If I disable CyberCapture will that mean no files will be sent anymore? If I leave it enabled, will I be given a chance to decide whether to send a file before it is sent?
Thanks for the link, but this seems like a long, 18-page discussion about the specifics of CyberCapture that I’m not interested in. I just want to know if disabling this feature will prevent my files from being sent to Avast. Thank you.
CyberCapture calculates the hash of a file and send that to avast.
Only if the file is unknown, the file will be send.
For security reasons, you should leave the option enabled.
Thank you. I am a software developer so the file is definitely “unknown”. But will it alert me about the file being sent if I leave it on? I’d like to leave it on if at all possible.
If you want to achieve that, you’ll have to disable CyberCapture, Reputation services and CommunityIQ. All can be found in main settings.
Though, reputation service by itself is only a query system which uses the cloud backend to check for file status. It doesn’t actually send files anywhere, it only sends its hash. CommunityIQ however does that as well as more in depth file characteristics, but it doesn’t send the whole file to avast! as far as I know, just file type, structure and metadata. Only CyberCapture sends the whole file to the cloud VM scanner.
