I know that the firewall and antispam are not part of the free software. When I installed neither was an available option.
However, some part of antispam was installed. When I open an email in Microsoft outlook 2003 the antispam toolbar is displayed. It does not work it merely causes Outlook 2003 to crash. Screen real estate is wasted.
It is not listed in the Options, Advanced, Etc. Com add-ins and it will not turn off by unchecking avast antispam in the toolbars list.
I went back to the installer and double checked and antispam was not available for download.
Any and all assistance will be appreciated
have you ever installed trail version of avast internet security?
i suggest you remove with this. http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
then download and install again. http://www.avast.com/download-software
did that change anything?

I was using Outlook express until yesterday. I installed Office 2003, changed to Outlook 2003 and i am also getting avast antispam , when i open my email.
I have only ever used Avast Free version on this computer.

Thank you to the forum members who have responded.
In the first case I had never use the advanced firewall and anti-spam program so there would not be anything to erase.
I think it is obvious something has slipped through from the paid version and the company will just have to clean it up and make a replacement available. I also noticed a program folder called “avast ad blocker” has also appeared in the folder but not in the program.
I will leave this open with a hope that someone from the company will read it and take action.
