I’m as happy as can be with Avast - it’s unfussy, doesn’t brag how well protected I am, seems to be a good neighbour to other software, and apparently does the job of keeping me virus free. So full marks to Avast (and good riddance to McAfee and Norton).
BUT …
just one problem. Every time Avast installs a new virus database, a chirpy north American voice announces it has been installed, loud, clear and unstoppable. There are times you don’t want chirpy north American voices making announcements, not even when confirming how well protected you are.
Times like late at night when the computer is on but no one is there - you’re in the next room. Did someone speak?
Times like when you are concentrating on something at the computer and don’t need interrupting voices.
Times like when someone is trying to sleep in the next room, and wonders why someone left the radio on.
SO …
how can I turn off that voice ???
Or at least turn down the volume without disabling the volume for user-controlled audio.
Best of all would be for Avast to offer a Mute button. Then it’s up to us.
