I run Windows for a couple of Music applications and find it easier to browse the web from Windows for related information. Is there a way to completely disable Avast, including update processes when I am using the audio programs (when the internet connection already is disabled). I don’t need it running then and can disable most other processes.
Right click the avast icon and select, Stop On-Access Protection.
I don’t know the audio applications you are using or why you would need to do this, I wouldn’t have though avast would cause that much of a conflict. If you can say what the problem/reason you want to do this, perhaps we can help resolve it ?
What sensitivity do you have the Standard Shield set to (Normal is the default) ?
What is your CPU and RAM ?
The avast update, isn’t as easy to toggle on and off, however, it doesn’t establish a connection and if you aren’t connected it won’t update.
The less applications that are running in the background the better when you are running music applications. The tiniest glitch can destroy a perfectly good take, doesn’t matter on the power of the processor, RAM or anything. The ideal solution is to turn off all non essential apps.
The other option is not to use the Windows computer for browsing the internet, that’s would just be a pain.
Problem will be define which are these non essential applications… I think in your configuration, avast shouldn’t be having that much impact in the computer performance.
If this is a Vista system, with aero and all the other bells and whistles enabled 2GB would be considered by some to be a minimum, so it might benefit from another 1GB (if a 32bit OS or 2 if 64bit). Add to that a heavy resources application and it would be the swapping out of memory to the HDD swap file pagefile.sys that would potentially be killing performance more than an AV.
A lot depends on your definition of non-essential is, mine includes security applications. Using the Stop On-Access Protection option I mentioned is handy because it is a toggle on/off option and all you have to be careful of is forgetting to enable it when you are done. Nothing like going on-line with your digital trousers round your ankles to spoil your day.
I agree with David that turning off avast! isn’t a good idea HOWEVER to answer your question, YES IT IS POSSIBLE to completely disable avast!.
Go to program settings - troubleshooting - put a tick on disable avast! self defense module , now right click the a ball and select stop on-access protection. Open up Task Manager and kill any process starting with ash* and asw* … That’s it .
Just remember to enable the avast! self defense module next time you boot …
