Disable Virus Detection screen?

hi

i am wondering if there is a way to disable the “caution a virus has been detected” screen, as i intend to run a scan overnight. ideally, i want avast to continue scanning and show a listed of detected threats at the end of the scan. as it stands now, everytime a virus is detected, scanning stops as avast needs to be told what to do! any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

joe

What you are wanting is a feature that allows automatic handling of detections during a scan.
This feature is not available in the free version.
Suggestions:
A workaround:

-1) Download the Eicar test file. (You’ll probably have to pause the webshield for this one.) "Eicar.com, http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm. This is harmless. It is a file designed to test that the realtime component of any AV is actually operational, for want of a more complete description. Details are on the site.
-2) Place the file in the C:\ drive, somewhere that is one of the first locations to be scanned. (Commence a scan and look at what the first few scanned files are.)
-3) Commence a scan. Within a very few minutes, the warning should occur. Answer it “continue” and tick the box “don’t show this warning next time”.
-4) Go to bed. Process the results from the scan report tomorrow.

Enable the Automatic handling feature, plus enable the scheduled scanning feature:

-1) Purchase Avast pro.

Most free versions of security software have some features limited that are available in the pro version. A lot of them have the detections or cleaning ability somewhat reduced. Some disable the thingumy that deals with spyware. With Avast, the detection and cleaning are the same, home or pro. Which is what, in my opinion, makes it especially good. (I was “bitten” by the lack of cleaning ability in another Av before I switched to Avast, hasn’t happened since.)
If the lack of features in the Home version bothered me, frankly, I’d pay for the pro.
You should find, once everything is clean on the hard drive, that regular scanning becomes less important. Unless you are unfortunate enough to encounter a zero day threat, the on access protection and other providers will make it unlikely that you’ll actually get an infection.
I scan these days, maybe once a month. Used to be every couple of days, then weekly… I just found it becoming unnecessary.
[edit] disclaimer the above paragraph is what I’ve found to be the case. Individual results/infection risks will vary depending on the user habits, how up to date the system is, and other security/immunity installed. All those are worth a look, if you haven’t already.

This is possible only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Well, that’s the way it is, I am afraid; you may call it a limitation of the Home Edition of avast!. In the Professional Edition, you can configure the task to perform automatic actions (or, don’t do anything).
In the Home version, you may check the “Don’t show again” checkbox in the Virus warning dialog - but only after the first virus has been found (because you won’t see the virus dialog until then).
