How do I disable Avast self-protection, please?
See pic
Ty, craigb.
But I clered that box, and Avast is till “Xd” out.
@ crartist1
Whilst it is easy to do as craigb shows, is there a reason you need to do this ?
As suspected the self-defence isn’t the issue and why I asked the question above.
I take it you mean the avast tray icon has a Red X over it and is reporting Unprotected, etc. ?
Ty, Correct.
Have you just installed avast ?
What version of avast do you have free/pro/ais and what build, 7.0.1426 (latest build) ?
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
But I also get the msg Avast is in self-protect, and an RPC error msg, as well.
I’ve been using it 6 years w/no probs.
Have version 6.0.1367 9free)
I also can’t uninstall avast, or add any other anti virus system. Nor canI update Avast.
Looks like the old avast version is corrupt, so I would recommend that you do a clean install of the latest avast7 version:
-
Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1426 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
-
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
-
- Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0 if you attempted to install that, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Ty,
I’ll try that again, but it hasn’t worked as yet. Gets blocked by current version.
Shouldn’t if uninstall is when in “safe mode”.
I did use Safe Mode. Didn’t help. But I’ll try again in a minute.I’ll let u know. Thanks for ur help.
Detailed information for installation from scratch:
- Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
- Download the latest avast! version and save it.
- (Optional) If you want, save your avast! settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
- Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode. Boot after you’ve run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
- Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
- Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
- Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
cswclear finally worked!
Thanks to all of you!
You’re welcome.
