Is it possible to temporarily disable AVAST?
Also, can it be uninstalled and then reinstalled using the same registration key number?
Another question: I get alot of ‘unable to scan’ results. What are you supposed to do with them?
Is it possible to temporarily disable AVAST?

essexboy,
Thank you, so very much!
No probs enjoy Avast
essexboy,
One last question. I’ve tried to schedule scans via the ms ‘task scheduler’, but after the memory test, it just sits there and does nothing. How do you schedule scans?
Check out this thread I don’t actually use it myself http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3796
Thank you. I’ll check it out shortly. I just restarted the com and the two taskbar icons for AVAST have disappeared. How do I get them back. Fun and games!
Use RezJor’s aec programme here http://www.excessive-software.tk/
Done! Still no taskbar icons, though.
Do you have any other antivirus installed?
Are you sure that the icons are not only ‘hidden’?
Maybe you can repair your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
Tech,
Been there, done that. All! Plus uninstalling and reinstalling. Finally, I had to uninstall again and do a system restore to yesterday and reinstall again. The reinstall only gave the option of repairing, which turned out to be another uninstall. Then it was reinstalled again. Now everything is working. It was a time consuming pain in the ass.
At least, it’s good to know everything is working again 8)
Indeedy! ;D
Now I’ll check out the thread on scheduling.
The taskbar icons have disappeared again and they’re not even in ‘current items’ in the properties menu. This is getting to be a drag. Can anyone help?
Silly question but are the Avast services set to Automatic. Go to control panel - administrative tools - services - there should be 4 Avast services set to Automatic not Manual not Disabled…
Two were set to ‘manual’. They were reset to automatic and the com was restarted. Nothing has changed. Thanks anyways, though.
Only Mail Scanner Service should start manually (not automatically).
An alwil website search, found the following:
[b]Q: The blue ball icons have disappeared from my system tray. How to get them back there?
A: If you´re using Windows XP, the icons are probably hidden. In that case right-click on your Taskbar and choose Properties. A dialog box “Taskbar and Start menu properties” would appear. Then uncheck Hide inactive icons check box.
If you´re not using Windows XP, OR if the previous solution doesn’t fix the problem, run the ashDisp.exe program (it´s in C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4 directory). It should bring the icons up again. If they disappear after restart again, make a shortcut to the ashDisp.exe file in your Start-up folder.

that is what is happining to me to with the icons in the system tray they were there and now no go WTF? Bobby
