Disabling restart prompts

After antivirus program update, it requires to restart computer. If I choose to restart later, it throws restart prompt at least every day. How to disable this annoyance?

Uninstalling antivirus would solve this problem, but it would remove antivirus protection. Not restarting when necessary also reduces virus detection capabilities, but does not removes them completely.

Version: Avast 5 free.

The problem is instantly solved by a reboot.

Reboot is NOT a solution. Can it be done by modifying configuration?

Why?

What could anybody prevent from rebooting?

I restart system when it either stops functioning properly or if there is prolonged loss of power. Any of these events happens less than once in 200 days. There were at least one update of this kind in 2010, and there were another recently (update to version 6). This application is not that important to be the only reason for reboot.

Is there a way to modify configuration (modifying executable with hexedit, included) to solve this problem?

Well, sorry that the 200 days didn’t work out…! ;D
But still you have to reboot.

Well, it doesn’t function properly, because Avast needs a reboot. So the condition you mentioned is met.
Reboot.

As long as it runs applications I need to do my work, it works properly. Antivirus is not an essential application (I used to run computer without any antivirus for ~6 or 8 months).
So far the only source of viruses have been USB mass storage devices (USB flash), so running without antivirus would limit safe use of these (needed ~2 times a month).

I will not reboot, just these restart prompts are annoying. This does not affects functionality of computer.
So… is there a solution or not? (or discussing such methods is prohibited in this forum)

No, there is nothing prohibited here. You can even state nonsense (lucky for you).

There is no solution as you request, at least to my knowledge.

Well, if you think so, it’s up to you, anyway…
And: No, there’s no other solution than a reboot.
Good luck,

OK, thanks for info.

Viel zu freundlich für den… ;D

You’re welcome…!

Kann sein, aber jeder kann/darf mit seinem System machen, was er/sie will…
Keine Ahnung, warum er keinen Neustart machen will, aber man muß ja nicht alles versteh’n. ;D
