Disabling shields, unable to access internet

If I disable the shields for any amount of time, I cannot access the internet. Cannot connect to any websites.
As soon as I enable the shields, connections to the internet are possible.
This seems backwards. Any ideas?

any other security programs installed?
Did you just install avast?

No other AV programs installed. Only Windows firewall. I do not use AVAST fire wall. Its disabled.
Just installed AVAST last week when I loaded the new computer.
Maybe uninstall and reinstall??

No. Just Windows 7 which I installed myself and Windows Defender has also been disabled
Nothing running but Avast which started out as a free version and then upgraded to pay version.

I have the same problem with Windows 10. Disabling shields means I have no Internet access at all (Server Not Found error).

I suspect this is causing Windows 10 Insider updates to be grayed out. Anyway to check this??

I uninstalled AVAST and lost my internet connection. Error message was "unable to connect to DNS SERVER "
I reconfigured the computer network and re established the internet connection.
I reloaded AVAST and now the shields can be disabled without an issue. I still have internet access when shields are disabled.
It may have been some configuration issue in my network settings. Not sure, but it is all working now.
