Disconnecting modem, disabling all av, za, etc to play games?

I only have 128 Ram on my Windows 98. (Hopefully soon I will have a new Dell.)

But even playing Civ 3 Conquest, seems to be slow, and my system resources go down to about 60.

Will I be OK if I disconnect my modem from the cable, and then disable avast, ZA, and Spy Sweeper while I play games?

Will it cause a turmoil inside my computer when I later try to bring back to life avast, ZA and SS, and then reconnect my cable back to the modem for the internet?

I sometimes wonder why I need a firewall. I never had one with Norton 2002 and did just fine.

There’s a special Game Mode in ZA. Maybe that would help you?

Thanks. How do I find this game mode?
