Discovery of individual subnets

Hello all,

I saw a couple older posts about this issue, but nothing definitive about it.

The situation I have is we have a rather large network, 2500+ machines and we are planning on running Avast at one location only (single subnet location).

Is there any way to limit discovery of clients to one single subnet? This would make my life so much easier if there is. Right now I have to do a discovery and delete the ones that are not in the local subnet or the licenses get handed to ones that don’t need them, preventing me from installing the net client on the ones in this subnet.

Thanks.

I think you can largely do what you want, although this may not be a complete answer. If you configure your discovery task to “Create Domain Related Groups…”, then Avast will group all the workstations accordingly. It will still find all computers, but you can then tweak your Deployment task to target just that domain, using either a static or dynamic group.

Does that help?

I tried that, but the discovery process didn’t seperate them based on the OU’s the machines are in.

I may have to create a filter in dynamic grouping to sort them based on the first 3 octets of the IP address.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about this, as we have over 2500 machines that get discovered, but are only needing to run avast on about 500 of them. It sucks to have to delete unneeded machines to not run into licensing issues. If I could only discover the needed machines, I wouldn’t have to continually delete machines.
