Disk cloning

Hi,

The install by disk imaging portion of the manual is a bit weak. Question. When I run aswimgpr.exe, do I run this once I dump the master image on to the system and then at the first log in?

i.e. The Sequence:

  1. Install Avast
  2. image with sysprep or whatever
  3. dump image onto new system
  4. let Sysprep do it’s thing
  5. run aswimgpr.exe?

Thanks

from what i read in the manual:

It is generally possible to clone machines that have the managed avast! products installed. All defined settings will be kept and the communication channel with the AMS will be maintained. However, some things have to be changed, such as the agent GUID, the unique identifier that the agent uses to authorize to the AMS. For this reason, there is a special tool in all avast! managed version installations. The tool is called aswImgPr.exe and is a very simple command-line application with one purpose: to prepare the avast! installation on the master for imaging. The preparation is only temporary, effective until a reboot takes place.

this means u have to install your master computer with everything you want to have in your image that you are goin to make
then run the aswimgpr (image PRepare, its all in the name really :D) then pull your image and reboot the master pc and avast managed client is ready in the image for new installations

in your table:

  1. install OS
  2. install programs that you need AND avast managed client
  3. run aswimgpr.exe
  4. sysprep your system (if u use the MS tools)
  5. create image
  6. reboot
  7. put image on new machine

done

Actually, I’ve been cloning PC’s for a while without having to run the aswimgpr.exe program. It might just be luck, but it hasn’t given me any problems as of yet.

My steps:

-Configure a computer (install programs, set up how I want it.
-Install a managed client of avast from the ADNM
-Run SYSPREP on machine, then capture an image
-Copy image on client machines
-Rename the PC’s to whatever I want, configure any last-minute permissions (if needed) and go.

The manual says agent GUID needs to be changed. I guess that isn’t the same GUID that Windows uses then.

I’ll stick with “wpn”'s procedure. Sounds a bit standard to me.

Don’t blame ya. Had I known about the aswimgpr.exe program before I imaged all of those computers, I would have used it. Just letting you know that I haven’t had issues by not using it.
