DivX Codec listed as Malware

Today I tried to install the DivX 10 Codec onto a new machine, but Avast Premier identified two files as Win32:Gen malware and prevented the installation.

I was wondering if Avast could inspect the recent build and ascertain whether it does contain malware, of if this is a false positive.

from where did you download?

Directly from divx.com.

then i guess it should be okay

You can upload files and report issues to avast here : http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php (select subject according to Your case)

You can use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password: infected

or you can send files from avast chest

The problems associated with running it are two-fold; whether you use the 1MB Web Installer, or try to download the full Standalone package, the anti-virus currently blocks access to files specifically required and cancels such downloads. As a result, you are not given the option to submit it as a false-positive without physically turning off the shields…

It might be simpler for everybody if Avast downloads the package themselves and creates an update to the virus definitions. For convenience, I’ve provided the link to the Standalone version below:

Hello,
can you post screenshot of detection, please?

Milos

Though it appears DivX have removed the full installer, I have an original record of the earlier installation attempt after it was moved to the Virus Chest:
