Today I tried to install the DivX 10 Codec onto a new machine, but Avast Premier identified two files as Win32:Gen malware and prevented the installation.
I was wondering if Avast could inspect the recent build and ascertain whether it does contain malware, of if this is a false positive.
You can use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password: infected
The problems associated with running it are two-fold; whether you use the 1MB Web Installer, or try to download the full Standalone package, the anti-virus currently blocks access to files specifically required and cancels such downloads. As a result, you are not given the option to submit it as a false-positive without physically turning off the shields…
It might be simpler for everybody if Avast downloads the package themselves and creates an update to the virus definitions. For convenience, I’ve provided the link to the Standalone version below:
