To my case:
I’ve installed a codec named divx v6.2 (Free Edition) in my PC. The file is toooo big (about 300MB, when fully installed) and it cames with a lot of things… But the problem occured just before, when you start the installation, the Avast alert (siren out) an existing virus in the Temp directory.
??? I have two questions:
The fact Avast detects a virus during the installation of DivX it’s actually a False positive?
Well, someone would mind to advise me a site where I could play few samples of DivX encoded quick movies and test the peform of codec?
Anyone who follows what is going on in the Internet cannot miss the reports that downloaded codec files are one of the primary sources of malware currently available.
Extreme caution should be exercised in the downloading of codec offerings. None should be executed until they have been thoroughly virus scanned.
Problem is, the instalation file (15 MB) was previously scanned by Antivirus and nothing suspicou was detected. But when I tryied to install, imediately Avast responds, that something was found on Temp directory…
And I thought a codec DivX downloaded from its own site, was supposed to be safe. Well, I cannot trust anymore… ???
Unfortunately, everytime I got that alarm from avast I used not to think twice, I give avast the command to delete the file, unconditionally. I never send any suspicious file to the quarantine… I’m very Sorry.
However I still have a registry of this event on eventvwr.msc, I hope this help…
Sign of “Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other}” has been found in “C:\DOCUME~1\NI~1\CONFIG~1\Temp\nsnC2.tmp\DivXConnectionTester.exe” file.
Also, while reading the license, that “just between us” condition thing make me very worried. Fearing something worse happen to my PC, I’ve downgraded the version to 5.0… :-\
