For some reason one of the computers connected to my network cannot access the internet without DMZ enabled to that assigned IP (I have no idea why). Is this unsafe for the entire network, and can someone who gains access to the DMZed computer eventually go through the network?
No, the problem is not that I do not know what DMZ is, I just do not know why the internet for my one PC will not work unless the IP is set as the DMZ.
But, I thought if you followed some of the links, you might come across a mention of the situation you are asking about. Also, somewhere along the line, you may come across a forum that deals with such DMZ issues.
I’m not an expert on this but for lack of a better answer, the way its supposed to work is only the computer(s) in the DMZ should be exposed, unprotected, to the internet. The other computers should remain firewalled as long as they are connected through the router and not directly to the DMZ’d computer.
But you might want to check your router’s firewall settings to see if you’ve allowed that ip address in the intranet but disallowed it from wan access, or limited wan access to certain hours, etc.
I tried that too, the block during specified hours is off. I’m wondering if it just a simple option though, I’ll quickly scan again. It would be odd though for the router to assign an IP and then block it, but computers and weird things seem to live together.
DMZ is mostly for Gaming use, I use DMZ when playing games online, I don’t need DMZ to play but only to host. As long as you are not connected to the computer directly it will not endanger other computers. But the computer with DMZ may be more exposed, but it shouldn’t matter if you have good protection.
